INVITED SPEAKER
Aivett Bilbao
Dr. Bilbao is a computational scientist at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) leading the development and application of advanced algorithms and software tools for mass spectrometry (MS) and artificial intelligence (AI) integration in scientific research and instrumentation. Her expertise and interests encompass various omics, MS instrumentation and analytical separations (including ion mobility spectrometry and data-independent acquisition), programming languages, and leveraging modern AI for understanding microbial processes at the molecular scale. She earned a PhD in Interdisciplinary Sciences/Computational Mass Spectrometry in 2016 in Switzerland, before joining PNNL in the United States as a postdoctoral fellow. At PNNL, she has been developing innovative tools for MS-based omics research, and since 2019, as a staff scientist, contributing to high-impact projects, spanning biology, biotechnology, and environmental sciences. Dr. Bilbao is passionate about creating user-friendly scientific software, utilizing AI for science, mentoring interns, and promoting diversity through inclusive research practices. She was named a 2024 Emerging Investigator in the Special Issue of the Journal of the American Society for Mass Spectrometry.
